Happy August! You know what that means…school’s almost back in session! What better way to start your year than to have access to my super fancy and rather rad, free Resource Library (FRL)!
The FRL is the location where I’ll be housing the bulk of our staple documents. Here are just a few featured in there right now that might help you kick off your first week back:
- Sample Course Overview and Student Expectations
- Open House/Parent Night: Sample PowerPoint
- Reading & Writing Diagnostics
- TurnItIn.com User Manuals for both Student and Teacher
- TurnItIn.com: Student Guidebook for understanding feedback online
- Course Rubrics (including student-friendly ones!)
- ‘Twitterfeed’ One-Sentence Summary activity (content building & writing conciseness)
And there’s much, much more to come! I’ll be adding little ditties as the days roll by and emailing you that an update has been made so you know right away.

Ok, onto the next one…
What. Is. She. Talking. About?
Well, I lightly mentioned it before, but I’m working on building up a business of my own within the field of education. I wasn’t sure what to call it and I went back and forth until I was half crazy, but I’ve found my path with…(drum roll please):
edPioneer Consulting, LLC
Yep. I’ve officially taken the jump, y’all. This school year, I’ll be stepping out of my own classroom and perhaps into yours. I hope you’ll welcome me and join in on the edovative fun.
Here’s the scoop…
Somehow, some way, I fell upon this crazy path in teaching where I’ve been asked to instruct a few courses that are, how shall we say, a little rough around the edges. A program like AICE is new to our part of the map, and the AP Capstone concept is brand new entirely.
It’s been an interesting (and very rewarding) ride finding my way with these curriculums. It’s challenged me to really get creative with what I teach and how I teach it. I’ve had to change and rearrange yearly to see what truly works, and I’ve loved every bit of it. In many ways, I consider myself a genuine pioneer in this brave, new world of 21st century education, where we just don’t teach ’em like we used to. Our new direction is much messier, louder, more interactive. And ya know what?! I like it.
Long story short, I’ve dusted off the trail for these courses in the past few years; I hope to pave a smoother path for you.
In the coming months, I’ll slowly begin shifting the warm and cozy ink of the Global Pen blog over to its new home at edPioneer. Pack your bags, friends! Adventure Awaits!
edPioneer will be offering you a range of awesomeness for your classroom. I endeavor to bring you more blog posts (packed with resources and teeming with ideas); in-house workshops and online webinars; one-on-one coaching and tailored curriculum design.
If you’ve ever emailed me with a question, networked with me at a workshop, or simply sat back with a cup-o-Joe and read one of my posts, consider this new path a way of having that kind of access to our dialogue all. the. time. Eureeka! We can nerd out any time you want now! Like I said, I’ll certainly miss my own classroom, but I know I’m making an even greater impact on education by being welcomed into yours. So hey, thanks 🙂
One big, big, BIIIIG favor to ask…will you still ‘like’ me?! Lol (sort of, not really). The edPioneer website is in the works but won’t launch until September 1 (though the Resource Library is, indeed, housed there…pardon my cyber-dust!), so I’ll let you know when that one hits the atmosphere.
But in the meantime, could you skip on over to Twitter and Instagram and tell me how much you care by hitting that pretty, lil ‘follow’ and/or ‘like’ button?
On Instagram, I’ll be posting tips, tidbits, and some pretty cool challenges to keep your pioneering spirits high as the year grows long; and Twitter will become my main source of sharing some really awesome posts, links, and websites with you…what a wealth of resources on that thing, sheesh!
NOTE: I’ve changed the Social Media buttons on The Global Pen website to match that of edPioneer, so if you clickie, you’ll get the rebranded GP! 🙂
Alright, everyone, it’s going to be a great year! I can’t wait to see you all online and in person soon! If you’d like to share edPioneer with your administrators or school district peeps, feel free to print out this LETTER I’ve drafted up for potential trailblazers 🙂
As always, thank you for being part of my tribe and for inspiring me every day.
